If you have family heirlooms, antique tableware or other items that you would like to set on display for others to see, you want to invest in glass curio cabinets. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, some specifically designed to fit into a corner, while others are larger sized so that they will sit nicely against a wall in your dining room or living area. You can choose between a floor curio or a wall curio depending on your available space and overall room décor. Whatever type of curio you have, the most important thing is that the glass must be kept clean and the cabinet dust free.

It does not take a lot of time to keep a curio clean; however, it will need to be attended to fairly regularly in order to keep it looking great. You may be able to have it in tip-top condition with a weekly cleaning, or if you have young children you may find that you need to at least perform a cursory cleaning every day or so. You will have to judge how often you need to clean it by how it appears.

For a quick clean, you can usually leave most of the items in the glass curio and merely dust around them. This is fine when you are short on time, or for the in-between light cleanings. You should remove and dust the items in the cabinet on a regular basis however, as they will also collect dust though it may not show as much as dust on dark wood shelving does. Find a good quality wood furniture spray, and use that to clean the wood sections. Spray it onto a soft cleaning rag, not directly onto the wood itself, and then dust the wood with the cloth. This should not only help shine the wood but it will also leave a protective layer of furniture wax on the wood, which will repel dust from settling as easily. Once the inside shelves have been cleaned in this manner, move to the outside of the curio and clean all of the wood.

Next, you will clean the glass. If your shelves are made from glass, you should clean those with glass cleaner and a paper towel or an old newspaper. Next, move onto the outside of the cabinet and remove all fingerprints or other marks from the glass. It is important that you remove any smudges with a dry paper towel once you are done.

Cleaning glass curio cabinets does not take a lot of time, nor is it particularly difficult to do. Some are bothered by the need to clean all the small items on display; however, it is well worth it if you want your heirlooms to look their best.
